The Shipley School girls’ basketball team improved to 4-0 ( 0-0 FSL) as they knocked off visiting Academy Park, 44-26, to stake claim to the title at the Toys for Tots Tournament hosted by the Gators.

Benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots charity, which gives gifts to needy families over the holidays, the tournament received close to 200 toy donations and almost another $400 in cash.

In the championship game, the Gators found their stride in an overwhelming 27-6 2nd quarter, keyed by 8 points by 6' 2" sophomore center, Alex Lennon, who finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Senior forward and captain, Alex King, won tournament MVP honors, scoring 31 points in both games. King and Lennon both are shooting close to 60% from the field for the season. Senior guard and captain, Rae Goldstein, continued her rabid defensive prowess and stuffed the stat sheet: 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists while committing 0 turnovers. 5' 8" freshman, Brianna Ross, turned in the best performance of her young career, scoring 9 on a perfect 3-for-3 from the field while hauling in 4 rebounds. Freshman forward, Sam Wolfson, and sophomore deadeye guard, Alisha Fairfax, continued to contribute off the bench, scoring 4 and 3 respectively. Fairfax now has at least one three in each of Shipley' s four games this season.

The Gators return to the court next Tuesday, December 12  to take on next-door neighbor Baldwin (at Baldwin, 3:45), led by Duke-bound lacrosse sensation Emma Hamm.
