Last Saturday, he earned a medal at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Championships, finishing in the top 20. He placed ninth at the Friends School League Championships, a race which featured some runners of national renown. “He’s a great athlete with a great work ethic,” said Shipley boys’ lacrosse coach and athletic director Mark Duncan. “After winning a medal at states last Saturday, he played for our fall lacrosse team at Radnor the following day.” Shipley boys’ cross-country head coach Dan Hawthorn said, “Arne has a calm mental attitude that allows him to bounce back from disappointment, but at the same time bring a strong resolve to each race. His training includes bicycling and lifting for strength and speed (for lacrosse), on top of an intense running schedule.” The Shipley junior hopes to run the 800-meter run or the mile run in indoor track this winter. He will be working out with the Haverford School team because the Gators have no winter track team. His sister, Ellie, is a three-sport freshman at Shipley who competes in field hockey, diving, and lacrosse. Andersen said, “I like all three sports and hope to compete in as many as I can at college. I would like to go to a small liberal arts Division III college with strong academics and athletics, and [as a possible college major] I am interested in science and the environment.” — By BRUCE ADAMS
