Counting Coup
October 6, 2005

On October 6th, over 40 members of the Shipley School community joined together to hear a presentation from Upper School Art teacher, Steve Baris and to discuss the book, Counting Coup: Honor on the Little Big Horn. The book by Larry Colton traces the experience of Sharon LaForge and her basketball team over the course of one nail-biting year. The non-fiction book takes place on the Crow Reservation in Montana, a place where Steve Baris spent a few years as a child.  Baris lived on a variety of reservations throughout his childhood and shared insights on the various cultures. After his presentation faculty, administration and parents joined in a discussion about the book Counting Coup in relationship to Baris' presentation.
