Tolerance.org is dedicated to replacing prejudice and hate with an appreciation for diversity within one’s community and the world.  This comprehensive site features a variety of resources, from guidebooks for youth and adult activists to daily media clips.  Take their “Hidden Bias” test or sign-up for their newsletter. 

All Men Are Sons

Explore issues of male gender stereotyping through this website for the film “All Men Are Sons”.  This award-winning PBS documentary film from director John Badalament explores the legacy of fatherhood through the father-son relationships of six men.

Southern Poverty Law Center

Established in 1971, the Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit agency, combats hatred through education and litigation.  The Center established Teaching Tolerance (http://www.tolerance.org/) in 1991.  Hate Group Maps and Hatewatch are two features that monitor the hate based activities across the U.S.

GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network)

“GLSEN envision a future in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.”  Founded in 1990 by Kevin Jennings, an educator and Columbia Klingenstein Fellow, GLSEN has worked to fight discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation throughout the US.  Check out their GLSEN in the News feature and on-line library for great resources.

Main Line Youth Alliance (MYA)

The Main Line Youth Alliance is a local group that provides support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning and straight youth through confidential and sensitive educational and social events and opportunities.  Serving youth ages 14-22, the MYA meets weekly in Wayne, PA.

This is a site chock full of resources for educators and administrators.  From movie and book  titles to quotes and multicultural quizzes this is a great jumping off point to help you uncover a variety of resources on the web and around the world.

Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance

This group’s goal is to integrate service-learning with curricular activities.  Check out their Diversity Guide.  It’s an Acrobat document filled with ways of involving students with their community while learning.  The guide also provides a list of diversity months worth celebrating along with resources for students.

Philadelphia Area Multicultural Resource Center (MCRC)

Shipley has been a long-time member of the Philadelphia Area MCRC.  The MCRC sponsors workshops, discussions an speakers to support students, teachers and administrators as they invest in increased diversity in the curriculum, faculty and student body or Philadelphia Area schools.

Women’s Educational Media (WEM)

This is a site that supports, produces and distributes an  intriguing collection of independent ad documentary films by women.  In their own words they provide “documentary films and videos that offer a perspective on how economic and social justice can be achieved, and to inspire diverse audiences to put their beliefs into action.”  It’s Elementary is an award-winning and controversial film produced by WEM.

Civil Rights Project at Harvard University

Founded in 1996 the Civil Rights Project works to provide resources in the form of educational tools, up-to-date news coverage and research to empower civil rights activists and policy-makers.  Their mission “is to help renew the civil rights movement by bridging the worlds of ideas and action, and by becoming a preeminent source of intellectual capital and a forum for building consensus within that movement.”

Eastern Educational Resource Collaborative (EastEd)

A great resource for conferences, consulting and area meetings, EastEd is an organization based in Washington, DC and dedicated to anti-bias and multi-cultural education.

Words Without Borders

In their own words, “Words Without Borders undertakes to promote international communication through translation of the world's best writing… and publishing and promoting these works (or excerpts) on the web.”  Filled with everything from lyrical poetry to straight-shooting prose, this website invites you to wander among the visionaries and bards of worlds far and wide.
