People of Color Conference The Shipley School was excited to be so well-represented at the NAIS People of Color Conference in Dallas/Fort Worth from November 30th –December 3rd 2005. Six students were selected by the Diversity Committee after they submitted essays articulating their reasons for wanting to attend. We were heartened that the student group represented strong diversity in terms of age, gender, race, and prior attendance at this conference. The seven participating adults included Beth Boreanaz (MS), Kathy Chapman (LS/MS), Helen Hamlet (LS/MS/US), Brenda Leaks (MS), Steve Piltch (Head of School), Sandi Richards (US/Coordinator of Community Life), and Harry Worrall (MS Division Head). Representing the student body were Loryn Hartshorne (9), Hakiem Coles (10), Melissa Lewis and Courtlyn Stone (11) and Tasha Plaza and Chris Wills (12). The students brought back insights to share with the school community.
