Shipley is a diverse community of students, parents, faculty, and administration dedicated to the highest standards of education and personal development. In an average class size of 15, each student is recognized for his or her unique personal and intellectual qualities and encouraged to develop them to the fullest.

Academics
Shipley provides, above all, an excellent education based on a rigorous college preparatory curriculum in the sciences and humanities. The quality of our program is demonstrated by the achievements of our students and graduates. Over the last five years, twenty-two percent of our graduates have received formal recognition from the The National Merit Scholarship Program. Shipley students’ SAT scores continually rank among the top independent schools in the Philadelphia area.

Compassionate Participation
Shipley believes that a well-educated person must be ethical and humane as well as knowledgeable. A Shipley education balances individual achievement with concern for others. Service learning is included in the curriculum from the earliest grades.

A Balanced Life
Shipley is concerned with the education of each student as an individual. An integrated program of academics, athletics, arts, and other activities helps students to find a healthy balance between work and play. Our students take their schoolwork seriously, are intellectually curious, seek creative challenges, are supportive of one another, and serve their community as leaders, workers, and volunteers.

The Faculty
Shipley teachers are dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled at presenting their material in clear and meaningful ways. They understand the needs of each individual child and strive to bring out the best in each one. The close interaction between faculty and students, based on mutual respect, is the hallmark of a Shipley education.

General
Founded in 1894, Shipley enrolls a diverse population of some 800 students on a 36-acre campus in Philadelphia's western suburbs. Our students regularly receive national and local awards and recognition in athletics, fine arts, and performance, as well as academics. The high achievement of our students is mirrored in the success of our alumni in college and adult life.

Shipley is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools. It is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
