What Is The Young Scholars Program?
- The Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed by H.L. Ratliff, Director of the Young Scholars Program, as an academically challenging program for students in the summer after their 7th or 8th grade year.
- It provides students with an introduction to top independent schools as well as academic preparation for any high school curriculum.
- The summer program takes place at Shipley and is taught by Shipley teachers.
- This program is available by invitation only. Please contact H.L. Ratliff or Monique Horshaw with any requests.
Program Dates & Times
The program runs at Shipley’s Middle School for 4 weeks:
2008 dates: June 23rd – July 17th
Classes hours are 9:15 – 12:30
Pre 8th grade: 40 minutes each of Science, Math, Literature, and Creative Writing and Skills
Pre 9th grade: 40 minutes each of Math, Science, Creative Writing and Skills, and Literature

The cost per student is $300, payable by check or money order to:

Transportation Details
The Shipley School is conveniently located near the R5 train line in Bryn Mawr (1/2 block away). After classes, some students will take the R5 train from the Bryn Mawr Station to Overbrook or Suburban Station. For the first few days, one of the teachers will escort students to the station.
YSP will offer bus transportation from Gesu School to Shipley. Pick up and drop off times will be announced later.
