We seek applicants who will thrive in Shipley’s challenging learning environment and make positive contributions to the School. The admissions process is designed to give you opportunities to become familiar with Shipley and to help us get to know your child and your family. We look forward to working in partnership with you this year.

Applications are considered for admission to all grades, Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. An applicant must be four years old on or before August 31 to be enrolled in Pre-K and five years old to be enrolled in Kindergarten.

  • Interviews and Tours

Please call the admissions office to schedule a parent meeting with an admissions director. We look forward to learning more about your child and helping you get to know Shipley during this meeting. The parent meeting includes a tour of the Lower School.
  • Student Classroom Visit

A classroom visit offers students the opportunity to enjoy a day at Shipley and allows us to get to know your child both as an individual and in a classroom setting. Applicants to Pre-K, Kindergarten, and grade 1 visit for part of a day, and students applying to grades 2-5 spend a full day at Shipley visiting classes. We will contact you to arrange your child’s visit once we receive your application.
  • Confidential Teacher Recommendation and School Records and Forms

A confidential Teacher Recommendation Form is required of all candidates. We ask families to arrange to have the completed form sent to Shipley. For grades 1–5, school transcripts and records must be received in order to complete a candidate’s application file.
  • Standardized Testing

Shipley requires standardized testing (ISEE or WISC-V) for applicants for grades 2 – 5. The ISEE Primary Level test is for applicants for grades 2 - 4 and the ISEE Lower Level test is for applicants for Grade 5. Families will need to register for the ISEE at www.erblearn.org. Both the ISEE Primary Level and Lower Level Tests are offered at a variety of local schools, listed on the ERB website. You do not have to take the test at the school to which you are applying. Alternatively, families may schedule the WISC-V with a local psychologist.

Application Timeline

Shipley will begin reviewing applications on December 9, 2019 but applications can be submitted any time before January 9, 2020.  Applications received after the January 9, 2020 deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis as space allows.

For families who wish to apply for Tuition Assistance, the Tuition Assistance application is due by January 9, 2020 or at the time the application for admissions is submitted.
