About the Team

  • Softball - Girls' MS A

    2023 - 2024
    Head Coach: Thomas Schauerman

The Middle School Athletic Program combines the building of skills, techniques, and fundamentals with competitive activities. Instruction is offered in team and individual sports as well, as non-competitive sports. These programs emphasize coordination, physical fitness, enjoyment, positive peer interaction, and sportsmanship. Team skills in leadership and responsibility are also emphasized.

Middle School competitive athletes will have ample opportunities to perform in games. Coaches monitor playing time carefully and see to it that, over the course of the season, all athletes have had commensurate playing time. The program, while appropriate for Middle School age groups, also represents a transition from the Lower School curriculum to the competitive sports or recreational activities in the Upper School.

Involvement in school life beyond the classroom is an important ingredient in the total development of a student. For these reasons, students in Grades 6 through 8 are required to participate in Shipley’s athletics program. The competitive teams have approximately 10-12 games/matches per season.
