Shipley violinist Saakshi Navile ’19 was selected to play in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) 2018 All-National Honor Symphony Orchestra Ensemble. The ensemble was led by conductor Dr. Jean Montès, Director of Orchestral Studies and Coordinator of Strings at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

To be selected for the Honor Symphony Orchestra Ensemble, students must participate in their respective state’s Music Educators Association (MEA) festival and be they must also upload a video of themselves performing the NAfME required repertoire for review by state MEA judges. 122 students participated from all over the United States, with only five being from Pennsylvania.

“This is the culmination of her outstanding results last school year at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Festival,” said Jhonnatan Mata, Shipley’s Director of String Ensembles. “This is a great honor for Saakshi and the first time a student from Shipley has been selected to attend.
