What is your favorite part about being an athlete at Shipley?
My favorite part about being an athlete is creating a bond with all my teammates. I really feel close and comfortable with all my teammates on and off the field, and I think it's really important to have a connection on the field.

What is your favorite part about being in the musical for Shipley?
Similarly to why I like being on a team, my favorite part about being in the musical is the friendships that you make with everyone. We spend a lot of time together after school, especially leading up to the week of the show, and I’ve made some of my closest friends through the musical.

What other activities do you do outside of school?
Outside of school, I stick more to the creative side and enjoy teaching myself new instruments. I love the piano and I find playing it a major de-stressor. I spend a lot of my free time with my friends - we are always doing something pretty active, whether it’s playing field hockey or going on long walks.

What made you want to do both athletics and the musical at Shipley?
My parents put me in athletics and the arts when I was younger and I’ve never lost interest in either of them. I love working with other talented people who care just as much about winning a game or dancing and singing on stage as me.

How do you find the balance between all of your activities at Shipley and outside of School?
I’m involved in a lot of activities and clubs at Shipley outside of the musical and athletics and honestly, I don’t have much free time, but I’ve found that I really enjoy being busy.

How does being a captain for your Varsity team correlate with being a leader in the musical?
Being a captain of the field hockey team has many similarities with being a leader in the musical. The musical is a team, and you have to have the same energy and inclusiveness that a coach would expect from a varsity captain.

When you came to Shipley did you consider yourself an athlete or a theater person? What do you consider yourself now? How did Shipley help shape the person you are today?
I've been at Shipley since Pre-K, so my whole life. Shipley made it easy for me to enjoy the arts and athletics starting from a young age. I’ve never considered myself a more athletic or a more theater person because Shipley has helped me find the balance between enjoying both and being able to participate in both equally. Going off to college next year, I’m really grateful that Shipley has helped me realize that both the arts and athletics are extremely important to me and I plan to continue to remain involved in both departments.

What does the Shipley Motto, Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
I really take the Shipley motto into account in both sports and the arts because you have to try your best and push yourself, which requires a lot of courage and determination.
