Black Alumni Association Endowment Fund Halfway to Goal!

Josie Burri
In 2021, the Shipley Black Alumni Association (BAA) set the goal of raising $100,000 to establish an endowed fund at Shipley to support experiences aimed at educating students about American history and culture through the lens of African-American contributions. By the end of Black History Month 2022, the results are impressive: $55,170 given by 116 donors.

The fundraising campaign, led by Hakiem Coles ’07, has been a grassroots effort with participation among various Shipley alumni classes, from 1970 (25 donors!) to the '90s, from the aughts to the teens – as well as from current Shipley families and faculty.

The kinds of experiences the fund will support include annual field trips to museums, memorials, and African countries and align with the School’s commitment to sustaining a vibrant, inclusive, and caring multicultural community. Read more at www.shipleyschool.org/baa.
