The New Kid
I came to Shipley in the eighth grade and was accepted immediately. It was fun being part of a big class, but it was small enough where everyone knew each other. In eighth grade I got to play every minute of every game in soccer and baseball, and for the first time I played basketball.

Academic Support
I would not have been as successful in my studies if it had not been for Shipley’s wonderful Academic Support team. Mrs. Trainer and Mrs. Russell supported me (as someone with dyslexia ) and encouraged me in English and history, the classes with the most reading. I could go into their office even when I wasn’t scheduled and they would help me. Whether it was organization, note-taking, or explaining Shakespeare they were always welcoming. My skills improved, and by senior year I was no longer registered for support.

Most Influential Teachers
I have to pick three, not just one, influential people during my Upper School years.

I had Mr. Fornaro for two of my five classes senior year – Engineering and Statistics. I really enjoyed Engineering – it challenged me. Mr. Fornaro was more than a teacher, he had a good sense of humor and I could easily interact with him.

Soccer Coach Thom Schauerman gave me unexpected chances to prove myself on the soccer field and I did – even though I was one of the rare players who did not play the game year round.

Mr. Blair was my advisor during all four Upper School years. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better advisor or advisory.

Plans for Fall 2015
I will be majoring in engineering at Clemson University. I am bringing my DJ equipment to college and hope to get involved with the campus TigerPaw Productions. If time permits, I’d like to continue to play soccer on the University’s club team.

Future Ambition
Becoming an engineer – perhaps in a field that involves the design process.
