DECA Members Earn Top Honors at State Competition


From February 22-24, 50 members of Shipley’s DECA team who qualified at the district level attended a three-day State Career Development Conference in Hershey, PA. Ten members of the Upper School club placed in the top four of their respective categories, qualifying for the International Career Development Conference, the most in Shipley’s DECA history.

DECA, as stated on their website, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Winners include:

First Place: Sydney Nagorsky and Jesse Barroway – Hospitality and Tourism Team
2nd Place: Caroline Dinome – Hotel Lodging Management
2nd Place: Elizabeth Durham and Hannah Engelmann – Buying and Merchandising
Third Place: Ganlin (Ross) Luo – Marketing Communications
Third Place: Jasmine Powell – Food Marketing
Third Place: Julia Meckley – Principles of Marketing
Top 4: Radhik Patel and Zach Bradlow – Innovation Plan
Top 6: Lilia Becker – Principles of Finance
Top 6: John Castleman – Principles of Hospitality and Tourism
Top 6: Ben Aschkenasy and Frank Fumo – Entrepreneurship

The International Career Development Conference will take place from April 26-29 in Anaheim, CA. Congratulations to all students who earned top marks at the competition and best of luck to our students at the international competition!
