Psychologist Lea Waters, Ph.D. Visits Shipley to Speak About Strength-Based Parenting

World-renowned psychologist Lea Waters, Ph.D. visited Shipley on Thursday, September 6 to speak to colleagues and families about strength-based parenting. Her presentation, “Strength-Based Parenting: Small Shifts Can Make a Positive Difference in Your Kids,” was the first event in Shipley’s Speaker Series in conjunction with its 125th Anniversary, happening throughout the 2018-2019 school year.

Waters is one of the world’s leading experts on Positive Education, an evidence-based approach to education that aims to strengthen academic and personal achievement through well-being and character development. Shipley is the first school in the country to adopt a school-wide approach to Positive Education.

Dr. Waters is a psychologist, researcher, speaker and author. She’s one of the world’s leading experts on Positive Education, Positive Organizations, and Strength-Based Parenting and Teaching. As a University researcher, Lea turns her science into strength-based strategies to help organizations, educators, and parents around the world build resilience in their employees and children, helping them to thrive. Lea is the president of the International Positive Psychology Association, and founding director of the Centre for Positive Psychology at the University of Melbourne.
