How Shipley Shaped Me
Shipley has prepared me for college and life by allowing me to create opportunities to pursue my passion for finance and mathematics as I created a class, Mathematical Finance, and a club, Predictive Analytics/Investment Club, around these topics. Shipley allowed me to take risks athletically by playing four varsity sports and allowing me to play tennis as a senior even though I had not played since I was in Lower School. My “Aha Moment” at Shipley came senior year when I realized how much I enjoyed my selection of classes that were focused on my interests where I was able to fully affirm what I wanted to do in the future.

Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teacher was Dr. Rebholz because he allowed me to follow my interests by teaching my Independent Study and running two clubs that I was a part of. Not only was he a great teacher for Economics, PreCalculus, and Mathematical Finance, I saw him as a mentor who taught me about the real-life experiences of working in the finance industry. He had the greatest influence on my time at Shipley because he really worked to help me follow my ambitions in order to be the most successful in my future.

Most Memorable Experience
My most memorable experience at Shipley would be either winning the FSL title for Soccer in my senior year or placing 3rd internationally at the DECA competition in Anaheim, California.

Plans for Fall 2018
My plans for the fall of 2018 are to attend the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

What is your future ambition?
My future ambition is to work in finance on Wall Street or in San Francisco. Eventually, my ultimate dream would be to bring the same analytics from finance into sports in the form of being a General Manager of a professional sports franchise. What led me to this ambition was how my two favorite things have always been sports and math, and Shipley enabled me to follow and develop these two interests.

What does “Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing” mean to you?
The Shipley motto means to me that you should be willing to try new things, but within those, act respectfully regardless of the outcome.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me...
to follow what I am passionate about, even if that means taking risks.
