Alumni Service Award Presented to David Palmer '89 May 3, 2019

David Palmer was a lifer at Shipley, graduating in 1989. From here, he took his love of literature, which he developed under the tutelage of Shipley teachers Kristin Jaffe, Susan Thomas, and Trevor Drake, to Stanford University, where he earned a B.A. in English. Dave then moved to London and worked as a trader in the financial markets, ultimately returning to the Philadelphia area to obtain his M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Today, Dave is a partner at the investment firm, Wellington Management, and enjoys, in his off hours, listening to the large vinyl record collection he started back when he had a weekly radio show on Stanford station KZSU and jogging on the Radnor Trail. He has two children at Shipley, and is proud of all that the School has achieved over the years.

Dave has been a member of the Shipley Board of Trustees since 2013 and is chair of the Finance Committee. He also serves on the Board’s Executive Committee, Audit Committee, and Committee on Trustees, and was previously chair of the Development Committee. Dave was previously a member of the Shipley Alumni Board (now known as the Alumni Council), participated on the 2003 Alumni Strategic Planning Committee, and served as a guest judge of the Upper School economics class midterm presentations.

In recognition of Dave’s stalwart dedication to Shipley and spirit of volunteerism, the Alumni Council named him this year’s recipient of the Alumni Association Service Award.
