Shipley sports fans may notice something different in the Gators’ 2019 fall schedule: volleyball. This year, the Championship-winning team will have to up their game as they face a larger number of private and public school opponents than they have seen in their typical winter season play.

 

Longtime coach (and Shipley volleyball champion herself), Marta Mielcarz Johnson ’95 is looking forward to the change. “We have the opportunity to raise the level of play at Shipley by competing against a larger number of teams that have been competing at a high level for years. There will definitely be challenges as there are when such a major change occurs with a program.”

 

But the Gators’ coach isn’t worried. “I've already seen over the last few weeks small adjustments our players are making to their game so that they can be more competitive.” Johnson sees other benefits to the change. “Hopefully this will draw more prospective students who are passionate about volleyball to Shipley.”
