Artist Statement:

Cuba

The cars, the colors and the architecture
In Cuba I was drawn to the brilliantly painted cars:
hot pink, turquoise, chartreuse, blue, yellow, red and orange.
Circa 1959 Chevrolet’s: curvy, voluptuous and sexy
The Architecture: arches everywhere you look and
corrugated sheets of metal covering works in progress.
Crumbling buildings, textures abound.
These are the memories that inspired me.
These are the elements that appear repeatedly
in every composition I have created in this series.
Collagraph, Monotype and Collage
are the three processes used
to create these images

About the Artist:

For the past 30 years I have been printmaking, keeping my health and the environment in mind by using non-toxic materials. Collagraphs (mono-prints), drypoint, and monotypes have been some of the printmaking processes I have used and continue to use to express myself. I have created multiple series of prints for artists’ books and continue to work on new book projects.

I have also been teaching art at The Shipley School for the past 25 years. I include this information because I believe teaching and being a productive artist go hand-in-hand and complement each other.

Some of my awards include the Esther Rose Fisher Printmaking Award, the Larmon Photography Award and the Sarah A. Peters Fine Arts Traveling Fellowship Award. My work has been exhibited in numerous group shows, solo exhibitions in photography, printmaking and book arts and is in a number of private collections.
