Compassionate Participation During the Holiday Season

Compassionate participation in the world is a pillar of Shipley's mission statement and engrained in the life and culture of the School. See a few examples of the various ways Shipley students are bringing compassionate participation to life this holiday season.

All School Thanksgiving Pack-Up
Leading up to Thanksgiving, the Shipley community donated money to purchase food items for Thanksgiving meals and then spent a few hours packing up meals for families in need. Each student group began their session with a mindful meditation activity focusing on food insecurity and gratitude. Students then stuffed bags to complete 250 Thanksgiving meals for local families, including those who receive services from Shipley’s partner organizations: Andrew Jackson School, People’s Emergency Center, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries, and The Breathing Room.

Each Thanksgiving meal fed a family of 6-8 people and included a 16-18 lb. turkey, yams, potatoes, green beans, apples, oranges, cranberry sauce, gravy, rolls, peanut butter, jelly, and treats.
