Upper School Students Win Awards in Technology, Debate, and Model Congress

Shipley Upper School students in technology, debate, and model congress earned high remarks and awards at several regional, state, and national level competitions. 

Technology:
Shipley's Technology Student Association, led by physics teacher Paul Tierney, placed in several categories at the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association Region 5 Conference. Awards were earned in the following categories: 

2nd Place Design Build Test Challenge
2nd Place Extemporaneous Speech
3rd Place Coding
3rd Place Board Game Design
9th Place Photographic Technology

Congratulations to team members Niam Shah, Aiden Bailey, Grace Gao, Scout Myer, Sonia Joseph, Casey Goss, Brooke Mc Carthy, and Kahlia Bailey!

Debate:
Shipley's Debate team recently competed in the state-qualifying rounds in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League. 

The team of Lilia Becker, Anita Raj, and Cameron Long went 3-0 and came in first place for District 10. This win marks Shipley's third year in a row advancing to states and is the first time Shipley placed first overall. They will represent Shipley at the state championship in Bloomsburg on March 13-14. 

Model Congress:
At Harvard's Model Congress competition in Boston, Shipley junior Matt Lasorsa earned the distinction of Best Delegate in his committee, the House Armed Services. He served as Indiana Representative Jim Banks (R).
