Natalie Tran ’26 Places 25th in National Science Olympiad Competition

Shipley seventh grader Natalie Tran ’26 placed 25th in a national Science Olympiad Competition on Epidemiology in September. She is the Middle School team’s first ever national medalist.

This year, Shipley’s Science Olympiad teams will be competing in the MY SO events, a new program designed to complement the traditional US tournament structure while maintaining safe COVID guidelines and providing access to hybrid and remote learners. Each month is dedicated to a different theme and students can test their knowledge against a national audience.

Shipley’s Middle School Science Olympiad team is guided by coach Sean Legnini ’07, who started the team four years ago. He said, “Natalie joined the Science Olympiad team last year and right away became one of our more dedicated students. She took on many different events, placing well in Heredity and Disease Detectives and earning a medal in Green Generation. This year, she jumped right back in without hesitation, even with the change in how we're competing. I'm glad she did—25th in the nation for Epidemiology makes her our first national medalist. We're glad to have her competing!”
