Shipley Co-Hosts “Building Healthy Multiracial Communities and How White Families Can Talk about Race”

The Shipley School, The Episcopal Academy, and The Haverford are proud to present a three-part virtual series focused on building and sustaining healthy multiracial communities at our schools, and exploring how families of all racial backgrounds can discuss race in order to contribute to a healthy and inclusive community.

These virtual sessions will be facilitated by positive racial identity development expert Dr. Ali Michael. Dr. Michael is a white woman and the author of Raising Race Questions: Whiteness, Inquiry and Education and the bestselling Guide for White Women Who Teach Black Boys. She also co-authored the award-winning Independent Schools Magazine article "What White Children Need to Know about Race.”

Dr. Michael will share stories from her childhood and her life as a parent, researcher, and anti-racism educator. These sessions speak to parent requests from this summer’s community forums about equity and inclusion practices.

The sessions will be held via Zoom at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, Nov. 9, and Nov. 16. The information at the sessions will build on each other, and we encourage you to attend all three if you can. But there is no requirement to attend all three.

Please register to attend.
