Shipley Students Participate in Global Dialogues

Though Shipley’s international travel programs have been temporarily halted due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Upper Schoolers Amber Feng ’24, Jenny Qu ’22, Sophia Rotman ’22, and Nancy Yang ‘22 were able to join students from Ghana, Morocco, India, Serbia, China, Denmark, Turkey, and across the U.S. over the summer to participate in themed conversations about important global issues, including environmentalism and sustainability, global perspectives of social justice, student action and leadership on global issues, and the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“This is a great, first-time foray for us into virtual, global student exchange,” said Director of Global Programs and Upper School Spanish teacher Kristin Shipler. “I can’t wait to see where it goes!”

Shipley is a member school of The Global Education Benchmark Group (GEBG), a leading non-profit organization of K-12 schools that researches and establishes best practices in the field of global education and supports member schools to prepare students to thrive in increasingly interconnected world systems. The group’s mission aligns with Shipley’s efforts to re-envision independent school education by putting individual and collective well-being with student achievement at the center of educational excellence.

Shipley’s Global Programs aim to prepare our students to become compassionate and informed global citizens by building global competencies, which include:

1) Investigate the World

2) Recognize Perspectives

3) Communicate Ideas

4) Take Action
