Letter from Michael Turner - Summer/Fall 2021

This summer provided much needed time for reflection. The past 18 months have been a period of historic crises. We have approached the challenges with courage and grace, and like our students, have all learned and grown along the way. I could not be more grateful for your enduring engagement and support. Our continuing progress together makes me hopeful about the future.

After two years as Head of School, I remain impressed with Shipley’s strategic plan, Vision 20/26: Inspiring Lives of Purpose and the three overarching goals of educational excellence, community engagement, and institutional stewardship.

The plan, rooted in the School’s core beliefs and values, provides a blueprint to inspire and prepare each of our students to live a life of purpose: to grow intellectually, act compassionately, and lead courageously. In this issue, we highlight a few of the initiatives undertaken as part of this plan, which has remained a priority during these challenging times.

This past year has revealed and reinforced Shipley’s tradition of care for individuals and each other. Our definition of educational excellence articulates the interdependence of student achievement with individual and collective well-being. This work is the ultimate team sport with the collective goal of ensuring Shipley continues to be positioned to succeed and thrive in the future. Each one of us plays an important role and I invite your continued engagement as we honor Shipley’s past, lead through the present, and plan for the future.
