Shipley Kicks Off Winter Sports with New Varsity Basketball Coaches

Shipley is proud to welcome  Alvin Williams as Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach just in time for their winter sports season, which begins Monday, November 8.

"Our Athletic Department and Basketball programs are strengthened by the addition of Alvin. His goals and coaching philosophy align with and support Shipley's mission to uphold and promote moral integrity, a sense of personal achievement and work, and to foster an environment that supports the overall well-being of our students. We are excited about the future of Shipley Basketball," said Justin Cooper, Director of Athletics and PE.

Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach
Alvin Williams brings a long and distinguished career in basketball to the boys’ varsity program.
 
After being identified as a highly-touted recruit during his time at Germantown Academy, Coach Williams headed to Villanova University to become a Wildcat. During his senior season, he led the team in scoring and assists and played a big role in the team obtaining the regular-season Big East title. He was a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and played for over a decade for the Portland Trailblazers, Toronto Raptors, and Los Angeles Clippers.
 
Between 2009 and 2015, he coached, scouted, and led player development for the Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers. He has also served as an analyst for Rogers SportsNet in Toronto, founded The Academy of Hoops, and co-founded Team 100.
