Shipley Launches DEI Family Network Affinity Groups

The Shipley DEI department is excited to have hosted Family Affinity Group Gatherings this fall as part of its work to fulfill the goals and strategies set forth in the School's DEI Strategic Plan. Affinity Groups are a safe space for our Shipley community members who identify as Black/African Heritage; Jewish Heritage, LGBTQIA+, Latinx Heritage, and Asian & Asian Pacific-Islander Heritage to network, share, and reflect on their experiences at The Shipley School.

An affinity group is a designated “safe space,” where everyone in that group shares a particular identity. This identity can be based on race, gender, sexual orientation, language, nationality, physical/mental ability, socio-economic class, family structure, religion, etc.  [NAIS.org]

Looking forward, we welcome and encourage other affinity groups that families would like to participate in. If you are interested in starting or participating in a Family Affinity group that aligns with your identity please feel free to reach out to Dr. Reginald Davenport or Sheri Rider-Jobe, or any of our DEI coordinators; Lila Corgan, Bruce Nkala, Kira White, or Saburah Posner.
