Science Olympiad Teams Win at Regional Tournament

Shipley’s Middle School and Upper School Science Olympiad teams participated in the Southeast Pennsylvania Science Olympiad Tournament at Bayard Rustin High School in West Chester, PA on Saturday, March 19.

After impressive performances, both teams qualified for the state tournament. The Upper School team finished eighth out of 29 teams while the Middle School team finished fourth, earning a spot at states for the first time. 

Congratulations to the following Upper School Science Olympiad students who earned medals in their respective categories:

First Place - Detector Building - Richard Liu
Second Place - Write It Do It - Emily Kucharczuk and Evan Buckley
Fourth Place - Remote Sensing - Bambi Tang and Richard Liu

Team members included Quinn O’Malley, Brett Mezrow, Hailey Li, Katherine Foulke, Doris Du, Madeline Day, Josh Cohen, Wilson Chen, and Max Ballas.

Congratulations to the following Middle School Science Olympiad students who earned a team record 15 top six finishes in their respective categories:

Fifth Place - Rocks and Minerals - Rohail Ahmad & Natalie Tran

Sixth Place - Bridge - Rikki Teicher & Ashley McCauley

The Science Olympiad teams will compete next in the Pennsylvania State Tournament on April 30, held at Penn State Altoona.
