Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teacher was a teacher that never taught me a single class. My most influential teacher was my advisor, Dr. Wellenbach. He has always been in my corner during my high school career and has been someone to talk to when I need help or if I just want to chat. Another influential person at Shipley was my crew coach, not only has he really helped me improve my rowing skills, but he has also helped me become a more effective leader in my community.

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class in high school was Astronomy during my senior year. I have always been interested in space so this class was really interesting to me, I also loved the teacher who taught the class. Mr. Clement was very engaging and really made the class fun. I also learned a lot about our planet, solar system, and the universe beyond which will hopefully prepare me for my future career.

What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable Shipley experience is when I went on the spring break athletics trip to Austin, Texas for the crew team during my senior year. I had been waiting to go on this trip ever since it was canceled due to the pandemic. It was an amazing opportunity to become a better athlete and to get a lot closer to my teammates.

What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
For me, Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing means pursuing your passions. Pursuing your passions with a calm, poised, and knowledgeable demeanor that allows you to reach your fullest potential. Having this motto in mind for the rest of my life will allow me to open doors and be able to fully realize my dreams.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me to…
…pursue my passions. It has given me the time to explore different options during my high school career and to really nail down what I'm good at or not good at, what I don't like, and what I do. It has given me the resources to try new things and the understanding when I say that it might not be for me. From my time at Shipley, I have been given everything I need to go out into the world on my own.

Reflections on your time at Shipley:
Shipley has had a huge impact on my life, it has given me some lifelong friends, incredibly valuable life skills, and the knowledge to be successful in college and in my future career. The rigorous academics challenged me and my peers and the passionate teachers have made all of my classes very special, and I feel that I have been exceptionally prepared for life after high school. One of my favorite things that Shipley gave me was the skill of independence. Shipley gave me the space to choose my classes, pick my clubs, sports, or other extracurriculars, and find ones that I would succeed in. With that said, I never felt unsupported at School. There were always teachers, administrators, or coaches who were there to help support me whenever I was struggling and it always felt great to have people like that in my corner. There were also tons of opportunities for me to take risks and challenge myself academically with all the honors courses and a variety of classes. I was also challenged outside of the classroom with the variety of sports and extracurricular offerings. I would not, by any stretch of the imagination, have called myself an athlete before coming to Shipley but I was challenged and allowed to try a new sport that I hadn't tried before: rowing. Now rowing has become a huge part of who I am and I'm incredibly thankful that I was able to try something new without the stigma or judgment that usually comes with that. I also really love Shipley's commitment to its community and service. I loved all of the volunteer opportunities organized through the school, especially the Senior Service Project. I had a great time there and it was one of the hallmark experiences of my Shipley career, even though it was cut a bit short. Shipley has touched almost every single part of my life since I came here in my freshman year and I could not be more grateful.
