The admissions process is designed to give you opportunities to become familiar with Shipley and to help us get to know your child and your family. We look forward to working in partnership with you this year.

Applications are considered for admission to all grades, Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12.

Upper School Admission Process

  • Application Form

    We encourage prospective parents to complete our online application with an application fee of $50. As soon as we receive your application, we will contact you to schedule a classroom visit for your child.
  • Graded Writing Sample

    Students applying in grades 9-12 are asked to submit a graded writing sample from the current school year.
  • Personal Interests Form

    Students applying to grades 9-12 are asked to complete the Personal Interests Form (Part 2). The Personal Interests Form helps us get to know the student and assists us in arranging a classroom visit host with similar interests.
  • Interviews and Tours

    Please call the admissions office to schedule a parent meeting with an admissions director. We look forward to learning more about your child and helping you get to know Shipley during this meeting. The parent meeting includes a tour of the Upper School.
  • Student Classroom Visit

    A classroom visit offers students the opportunity to enjoy a day at Shipley and allows us to get to know your child both as an individual and in a classroom setting. Students applying spend a full day at Shipley visiting classes. We will contact you to arrange your child’s visit when we receive your application.
  • Confidential Teacher Recommendation Forms and School Records

    A confidential Teacher Recommendation Form is required of all candidates. We ask families to arrange to have the form sent to Shipley. In order to complete an application file, school records are required for the current and previous 2 school years.
  • Standardized Testing

    Please submit one of the following tests:

    Independent School Entrance Exam

    Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 4th Edition (WISC-IV)
    Wechsler testing may be administered by a licensed private psychologist or by a testing center.

Application Timeline

Students who complete all parts of the admissions process by January 15, 2017 will receive an admissions decision before February 1, 2017 with an enrollment deadline of March 1, 2017.
This year at Shipley, applicants who have a completed file by December 9, 2016 will have the opportunity to receive an early notification. Applicants who have a completed file by December 9, 2016 will be notified of their admissions decision in early January.

Students who complete all parts for the admissions process after the January 15, 2017 deadline will have their file reviewed by the Admissions Committee on a rolling basis. The enrollment deadline will be determined at the time of the decision.
