Meet our Student Ambassadors

Meet Gavin '27

How long have you been at Shipley?
Five years, since Kindergarten

What have you been involved in that you really enjoyed at Shipley?
Knights and Castles in Kindergarten. We got to kneel down in front of our teachers and be knighted. We also worked to together to create a castle in the classroom and got to go in it.

I am on Student Council now. We talk about all the things we want to do – how we can help the School, and how we can add to the School to make it better. One idea we have is to build student responsibility by bringing in a class pet to take care of. Student Council likes this idea so we will see what happens!

Do you have a favorite subject?
I like social studies a lot. Right now we are studying ancient civilizations and we are learning about Egypt. Today, we built pyramids out of marshmallows and toothpicks. My group’s pyramid didn’t stand as well as others, but some kids built huge ones!

What is your favorite Special?
My favorite special is Library. Mrs. L. always greets us with a book and reads to us, even in fifth grade, which we all love. Then we get to explore the library, choose books, and have time to read. It’s peaceful and fun.

What clubs are you in?
Bombardment is my favorite club – we get to make up silly team names and bring props and play lots of dodgeball. There are crazy rules and it’s a lot of fun.

What are you looking forward to in Middle School?
We will get to go to different classrooms with different teachers – instead of one teacher in our homeroom. We practice that with “rotations” in fifth grade, but I am looking forward to doing it every day.

What advice would you give to new students coming into Shipley?
Don’t be nervous – just go in and have fun and meet new friends. I know that can be hard to do, but everyone is really nice and welcoming!
