What's Your Shipley Story: The Tiongco Family

Kathryn Smith
When the Tiongco family moved to the Main Line, they were looking for a school with small class sizes, an individualized educational experience, a strong community, and, as a family of Filipino descent, a school culture that celebrates diversity.

Again and again, The Shipley School came up.

From day one, they were thrilled. “It was magical,” says mom, Antonette. “Our son, Alton ’28, came back from his school visit and asked when he’d be able to go back. I knew from the moment I dropped off my child, he’d be well-cared-for, he’d learn, and he’d flourish. We had no doubt that Shipley would be a great fit for our daughter, Angie ’31, when the time came.”

“The teachers notice what works for each child,” says dad, Alvin. “Our son can be very timid and reserved, and our daughter, energetic and vocal.” Antonette agrees. “Last year, our son starred in the Lower School play as Captain Hook. To see him so confident on stage, so different from the shy, timid, pre-K boy—I cried! We credit his teachers for this. We also love that both he and our daughter are already involved in Shipley’s sports and music programs.” Adds Alvin with a laugh, “they are busy, but the kids love what Shipley offers.”

“Through all the levels at Shipley: drama, academics, sports, music, and SEED classes, Shipley customizes education for each child,” says Antonette. “The investment in Shipley will pay itself forward forever. Our children will be prepared for college and grad school. Our children will be prepared for life.”
