For decades, Shipley has been connecting young people with the beauty and joy of plants and horticulture:
Shipley Sprouts, the school’s renowned high school horticulture club, was established in 1974. The program focuses primarily on learning to grow and propagate plants, while also introducing the concepts of horticulture design, food production, and environmental issues. Students spend the year preparing container gardens, flowering bulbs, and miniature landscapes for entry in the Philadelphia Flower Show competition.
Year in Review - Sprouts
From beginning their year planting bulbs, to participating in our annual Greening of the School in December, to preparing for the PHS Flower Show our Shipley Sprouts are always busy through the year. At this year’s PHS Flower Show, they were awarded 108 ribbons, including 24 blue (1st place) ribbons, and a special award: the PHS “Best of the Blues” for their Pocket Garden entry.
