The Shipley community has a wide range of ways for parents, local alumni, and non-local alumni to share their skills and ideas.
For Local Alumni
Encourage Alumni Giving
Each year, more than 1,000 alumni support Shipley through the Annual Fund. You can help Shipley increase dollars raised as well as participation by contacting other alumni and asking them to join you in supporting the School. Outreach is conducted through letter, phone, email, or a combination thereof. To help, contact Ethan Dubow, Director of Alumni Giving: 484-380-4743 or email@example.com.
Engage with Students
Do you have the ability to judge a mock business plan for an Honors Economics student? Can you offer career advice to a budding computer programmer? Are you willing to share your journey from shy English student to published author? Shipley students love to hear and benefit from your real-world perspective in an area they love learning about and/or may be considering as a career. To help, contact Ashley Kopp, Director of Alumni Programs and Events: 610-581-4656 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Find Lost Classmates
At any one time, approximately 13 percent of Shipley alumni are “Lost” to Shipley. You can help these alumni reconnect with Shipley and with their classmates and other alumni by providing Shipley with their current address and other contact information. To help, contact Jennifer Murphy Devine '98, Alumni Coordinator: 610-525-4544 or email@example.com.
Host an Alumni Reception
Whether you live in Philadelpha or elsewhere, you can help Shipley connect with its alumni by hosting an alumni reception. These events generally take place in an alumna/us’ home or at a club, restaurant, or other venue with which he/she is familiar. Shipley takes care of inviting alumni in a particular area and collecting responses; the alumna/us takes care of refreshments for approximately 15-35 attendees. To help, contact Ashley Kopp, Director of Alumni Programs and Events: 610-581-4656 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Host your Reunion Class Party
Every five years, your class celebrates a reunion during Alumni Weekend, typically held the first Friday and Saturday of May. Alumni who live close to Shipley can be helpful by hosting their Class Party on Saturday evening. Depending on the class and reunion, hosts can expect to have between 10 and 30 guests. Some hosts underwrite the party, others ask for a small per-person contribution (payable to Shipley and reimbursed to the host). To help, contact Ashley Kopp, Director of Alumni Programs and Events: 610-581-4656 or email@example.com.
Join an Event Committee
Whether you have a few hours to share, or can take on a leadership role, our fundraising events depend upon volunteer support, and the proceeds support Shipley students and programs. To learn more about the events below, contact Melissa Fairfield, Director of Parent Programs and Events: 610-581-4618 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shops from all over the country gather together to bring a spectacular array of merchandise for early holiday shopping. Parents, alumni, and others volunteer in many different ways at The Shops and staff Shipley’s own booths.
The largest fundraising event of the year, Spring Auction generates funds that further enhance the Shipley educational experience. Held in Yarnall Gymnasium, the event includes silent and live auctions, food, live music, and lots of fun. Donate an item or be an absentee bidder and win awesome items while supporting Shipley!
This all-day tour of private gardens is held in a different area each year. The committee plans and hosts the tour, which includes a luncheon with selected vendors and Shipley’s Garden Boutique. Have your home featured on the tour or volunteer as a garden guide!
This event, held at White Manor Country Club, needs volunteers to help recruit sponsors and to assist on the course during the outing.
Offer a Testimonial
You support Shipley; tell others why you do. Whether you are a committed annual fund, capital campaign, or planned giving donor—or all three!—Shipley could use your ‘voice’ to help others follow your lead. Testimonials can be two-to-three sentences or two-to-three paragraphs, and they are generally featured both in print and online. To help, contact Elizabeth Kolb, Associate Director of Development for Alumni Engagement, 610-581-4654 or email@example.com.
The Alumni Council supports Shipley by engaging and cultivating Alumni to create a vibrant, involved alumni community that is emotionally and financially invested in the School’s success. Council Members serve as well-informed, enthusiastic ambassadors of Shipley to Alumni and the community at large. Council members participate in selection of annual Alumni Awards winners. If interested in being considered for nomination to the Alumni Council, contact Ashley Kopp, Director of Alumni Programs and Events: 610-581-4656 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Promote the Arts
Members of the Fine Arts Committee work closely with Chris Wagner, Head of the Fine Arts Program, to seek out new and unique artists to exhibit their work in the Speer Gallery over the course of the school year. The annual schedule consists of seven shows, including at least one alumni show and one student show. Committee members work closely with the artists and the Development Office to coordinate the logistics of each show, including installation and dismantling, artist receptions, and communication details. To help, contact Melissa Fairfield, Director of Parent Programs and Events: 610-581-4618 or email@example.com.
Promote Social Media Connections
Increasingly, Shipley relies on social media to connect with its alumni and to connect alumni with one another. The Social Media Team helps to promote news about and important messages from the School by using their own social media connections to share Shipley’s Facebook, LinkedIn, and email messages. To help, contact Ashley Kopp, Director of Alumni Programs and Events: 610-581-4656 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
