Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teacher was Ms. Willing. I struggled in her Honors Biology class but she never let me give up. She helped me realize that sometimes struggling in a class will help you more than hurt you. She also taught me that learning how to learn is more important than the grade reflected in a class.

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was engineering. It was the first class at Shipley that I had that allowed for a large amount of hands-on learning. I enjoyed the mix of written assignments, reflections, and the building of projects.

What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley was my senior year Super Saturday. I was at school the entire day and got to interact with many different types of people in the community.

What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
Our school's motto, to me, means being selfless enough to put others before yourself but being humble enough to not point out when you are being selfless.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me to…
do things I could never have dreamed of accomplishing.

How has Shipley prepared you to be your best self and do your best work?
Shipley has prepared me to be able to comfortably communicate with adults. It has also taught me great time management skills which will help me in my future endeavors.

How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley encouraged me to take challenging courses as well as branch out into different types of courses. Immersing myself in new and challenging things while in high school has prepared me to take risks when I am in college.

Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it has meant to you.
When I first got to Shipley in ninth grade it was hard to find my place. Most kids had been friends with each other for many years and I was just the new kid. Luckily people took chances on me and I was able to find a good group of friends. As the years went on I was able to find my ideal group of close friends whom I hope to stay friends with for a long time. Shipley has been more than a school for me, it has been a community. The students, faculty members, and coaches all became a second family to me. I am grateful that I got to spend four years in such a great environment.
