COURAGE FOR THE DEED;
GRACE FOR THE DOING

Lower School

Opportunities for learning and discovering new passions extend beyond the typical school day with Shipley’s Encore Club program in the Lower School. A rich array of developmentally-appropriate clubs is offered to students in preschool through Grade 5. Clubs meet weekly and are offered Monday-Friday (there are three sessions during the year).

Later Gator after school care provides a safe setting where students can play, do homework, and spend time with friends under the supervision of a caring staff. Later Gator is offered from 3:00 – 5:40 pm on regular school days, from 12:00-4:50 pm on early dismissal days, and from 8:00 am – 4:50 pm on conference days and certain holidays. Later Gator offers advanced registration or drop-in service.

A Menu of Choice

One of the great things about enrichment activities is that they provide students with choice and the opportunity to take ownership of learning. Learn about the many enrichment options Shipley students have. {Develop page with list of recent clubs and embedded slideshow}

Middle School

Middle School students can attend Gator Zone, a supervised study hall to work on homework. Gator Zone is offered on all regular school days from 3:40 – 5:40 pm. Please note that students who are not picked up by 3:40 pm will be taken to the study hall. The cost is $7 per half-hour. Once the program ends at 5:40 pm, a 10-minute grace period is allowed, during which time no late fee is applied. After 5:50 pm, late fees apply and should be paid to the attending teacher at the time of pick-up. The charge is $30 for the first fifteen-minute interval (up to 6:05 pm). A $50 charge will be applied for pickups later than 6:05 pm, with no exceptions.

    Conduct
    Gator Zone and the Encore Clubs are an extension of the Shipley Middle School. Therefore, students are expected to conduct themselves as they would during the regular school day. In addition to rules for safety and following directions, our primary expectation is for the children to treat others the way they want to be treated. Children who cannot follow these rules or who have other disciplinary issues may be restricted from participating in Gator Zone and the Encore Clubs.

Upper School

Upper School classes end each day at 3:10. Upper School Athletics take place after school. A wide variety of athletic options are offered at the varsity and non-varsity level each of the three seasons.  Students are strongly encouraged to participate in a team sport each year.

The Student Activities/Music/Theater Program complements Shipley’s overall program and runs at separate times from athletics and academics to reduce conflicts. For the 2016-2017 school year we have over 30 options ranging from the School Newspaper to the International Clubs.  The program gives students the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of constructive and organized activities outside the classroom.

Our theater and music departments also offer a wide array of options for our students. Music groups include handbells, jazz, and string ensembles, chamber music groups for winds and brass, Glee Club, and our select vocal ensemble, the Shipley Singers. Our theater offerings regularly include musicals, Shakespearean comedy and drama, and contemporary plays.

Activities and Ensembles will take place during second period on H, I, P, L, and Y days.  Major activities will take place on H days; minor activities and smaller clubs will be spread out on I, P, L, and Y days. Every student must be in at least one activity.
