Centennial Society Spotlight on Henderson “Woozy” Supplee III

The late Henderson “Woozy” Supplee III, a member of the Centennial Society since 2014, has remembered Shipley with a bequest.

Woozy’s deep ties to Shipley date back to the 1940s. While he attended Episcopal Academy in his youth, it was an all-boys school at that time and his parents chose Shipley for his sisters, Anne Supplee Carroll ’49 and Betty Supplee diValmarana ’53. Woozy’s mother, Mary Baker Supplee, modeled the importance of service and was a member of Shipley’s Board of Trustees from 1943 to 1951.

When the time came for Woozy and his wife Barkie to choose a school for their own daughters, Shipley was the natural choice, and all three – Shelley Supplee ’78, Pam Supplee Jiranek ’80, and Robin Supplee ’83 – are Shipley graduates. Following in his mother’s footsteps, Woozy served Shipley as a trustee from 1970 to 1983 and he continued to support the School each year through Annual Giving. His support for Shipley will live on in perpetuity, as estate gifts go directly into Shipley’s endowment to ensure the School will be financially sound well into the future.
