Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teachers were Ms. Winiarski and Mr. Hornung because they both made me feel comfortable to speak about my ideas and opinions. They created a safe learning environment where I could talk about the aspects of the book I enjoyed while analyzing the symbolism and quotes.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was Senior Seminar: African American Literature because of the teacher, Mr. Hornung, and the course's assignments. He did a deep dive into the books we read and inspired me to want to start reading more books of certain genres. His love of the course and books made the class incredibly worth it.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience was in Ms. Winiarski's Women's Literature Senior Seminar class. It was a class of only women, and we could talk about all the harsh realities women had to face in the modern and past eras. She gave the class words of advice that I will remember for the rest of my life.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
It means having the courage to take risks and handling those risks delicately and with kindness.
How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
The students and environment at Shipley inspired me to dress how I wanted to dress and inspired my love of fashion.
Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it meant to you.
Shipley taught me to be who I am without caring about what others think. My time at Shipley academically challenged me to become a better student and that translated to my sport outside of school. I met some of my lifelong friends at Shipley, and the things they taught me I will hold onto for the rest of my life.
