INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Shipley is committed to welcoming international students into our community. Shipley typically enrolls students from a number of countries including Australia, China, Italy, Canada, and the U.K. International students strengthen our community and encourage the kinds of exchanges that enrich the educational experience for all students.

Ivy International Group (IIG)

Shipley has an agreement with Ivy International Group (IIG).

IIG will process international student applications from China, conduct initial screenings, provide travel advice, arrange for housing in proximity to the school, and act as a liaison between the School and the student's family.

IIG has offices and representatives in Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore and Chicago, as well as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Ivy International Group offers services to students and their families to support a successful transition to Shipley including orientation programming in August. IIG makes all homestay arrangements for students studying in the U.S.

Shipley, an independent, college preparatory day school, does not offer dormitory living or arrange for student housing.

All applicants from China who will require a homestay should contact Ivy International directly.

The Shipley School Welcomes International Students

Shipley's application process is the same for domestic and international students with two exceptions. First, all international students whose primary language is not English are required to take the TOEFL. Second, international students from China requiring a homestay are required to complete the application process through Ivy International Group.

Entrance Exams Requirements

Shipley does not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. All instruction and assessment is conducted in English. All international applicants must demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written English.

For applicants whose native language is not English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required. A minimum score of 90 is expected.

In addition, all applicants are asked to submit results of the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) as part of the application process for admission to Shipley.
