Our Mission

The Shipley School, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 coeducational day school, is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and a compassionate participation in the world.

Through a strong college preparatory curriculum in the humanities and sciences, the school encourages curiosity, creativity, and respect for intellectual effort.

Shipley upholds and promotes moral integrity, a sense of personal achievement and worth, and concern for others at school and in the larger community.

Guided by our mission—and by our timeless motto Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing—we strive to create a community where every student is truly known and supported.

Today, Shipley serves approximately 725 students across three divisions on a beautiful, 40-acre campus in Bryn Mawr. Small class sizes and a 7:1 student-to-teacher ratio ensure that each child’s strengths, interests, and needs are understood and nurtured.

At Shipley, students are known, challenged, and inspired to become compassionate leaders. Through rigorous academics, exceptional opportunities in the arts and athletics, and a strong commitment to social-emotional learning, they develop the intellect, confidence, and character to succeed in college, in their careers, and in life—while gaining the vision and skills to make a lasting impact on their communities and the world.
