Our Leadership

OUR LEADERSHIP

Even in The Shipley School’s earliest days, the Shipley sisters recognized that the best education went far beyond academic preparation.

Meet Ian Craig

A Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome to The Shipley School.

It is a privilege to lead a community defined by academic excellence, strong relationships, and a deep commitment to the growth of every student.

At Shipley, learning is rigorous and purposeful. Our academic program challenges students to think critically, engage deeply, and develop the skills they need to succeed in college and beyond. Just as important, we believe in balance. Exceptional opportunities in the arts and athletics, paired with a strong focus on social-emotional learning and well-being, ensure that students are supported as whole people—not just as scholars.

Leadership at Shipley is rooted in stewardship. Alongside our Board of Trustees, I am committed to honoring the School’s proud history while guiding it forward with intention. We hold fast to the values that have shaped Shipley for more than a century—integrity, courage, and respect—while embracing innovation that strengthens our mission and serves our students.

Our purpose is clear: To educate students who think independently, act courageously, and lead with compassion. This is what it means to educate for life, and it is the work we are proud to do every day.

Thank you for your interest in Shipley. I invite you to explore our School and discover what makes it so special.

Guided by Stewardship

Shipley's Board of Trustees brings together alumni, parents, and community leaders who share responsibility for the School's future. Working alongside the Head of School, they shape long-term strategy, steward Shipley's resources, and protect the mission that has guided this community for more than a century. Their service ensures that the values at the heart of a Shipley education endure—for the students of today and those yet to come.
