Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Dr. Gillin. She is a super encouraging teacher, passionate about her job, and taught powerful electives. I always enjoyed going to her classes.
What was your favorite class and why?
African American History and the Modern Era with Dr. Gillin. The course was so engaging and so different than any other class I had previously taken. Such deep and important content was taught and I'm glad that I decided to take that elective.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My time on the JV Girls Basketball team. I got to be friends with so many people who I wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise and had so much fun and made so many memories while playing a sport I love.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
When I first came to Shipley, I always wondered what Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing meant. Throughout my years here, my understanding of it deepened as I faced new challenges and experiences. To me, it means having the courage to take action, even when something feels difficult or uncertain. It also means approaching those actions with grace, kindness, and resilience throughout the process.
How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley encouraged me to take risks because the environment was always so positive; I was never scared to take risks or try something out of my comfort zone because I knew people would always be there to support me.
Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it meant to you.
My time at Shipley meant so much to me. Coming to Shipley in 9th grade was the best decision my family and I made. The campus, the opportunities, the people. Everything I experienced at Shipley is something that I will cherish forever.
