What is your favorite club, activity, or co-curricular? Why?
My favorite activity is probably Shipley Singers because it challenges me as a musician. We are constantly learning new songs and techniques and doing performances.
What is your favorite class or who is your favorite teacher? Why?
Honestly, it's very hard for me to pick a favorite class since I have been very fortunate to have had positive experiences in all of them. But, if I HAVE to pick one, I would say Spanish. All of the Spanish teachers at Shipley are amazing, and the curriculum is engaging.
How do you balance your academic workload with your co-curricular activities?
Balancing my workload and co-curricular activities is not always the easiest thing to do, but at Shipley I feel very supported. Teachers are always willing to talk with students about how to manage assignments. There is also time built into the day to complete work. I use the study halls and free periods in my schedule to finish assignments and meet with teachers about any questions I may have. These times, along with teacher support, allow me to engage in both school and afterschool activities without feeling overwhelmed.
What is something you think is important for prospective families and students to know about Shipley?
One thing I think is important for families and students to know about Shipley is that it really is a place where you can try everything. What I mean is that you can be an artist and an athlete simultaneously or decide one day to try a new sport or musical instrument. It really is a place that cultivates creativity and allows you to explore.
Advice for new students.
A piece of advice I have for new students is to utilize your resources. Everyone at Shipley is here to help, and your teachers especially want to work with you. If you have any questions or need help, definitely ask the adults around you!
