What is your favorite club, activity, or co-curricular? Why?
I love all my sports and their respective teams, but lacrosse is my favorite. The team culture in any sport at Shipley is amazing, but there is something so special in being a part of a team like Shipley Girls’ Lacrosse. Everyone is so supportive while also being competitive. We push each other to become better not just for ourselves but for the betterment of the team.
What is your favorite class or who is your favorite teacher? Why?
My favorite class is US History with Dr. Gillin. I have always found history fascinating, and Dr. Gillin teaches in a way that keeps everyone engaged and wanting to continue to learn. She encourages the students to do their best work and supports everyone when they feel they are struggling.
Even though I have never had him as a teacher, Mr. Frankel has been a great advisor and coach. He has supported me through all my challenges, both athletic and academic, and can make anyone laugh when needed. I am looking forward to having both him and Dr. Gillin as teachers in the future.
How do you balance your academic workload with your co-curricular activities?
Being a three-sport varsity athlete and a full-time student, I have an extremely busy schedule. Because of this, along with wanting to spend time with my friends and family, I have become incredibly productive and proactive. I make sure to get all my work done, so I have time to do the things I love. Furthermore, on weeks where I have lighter workloads and on weekends, I spend my time with my family and friends, giving myself a break from the craziness of my schedule. It is so important to find a balance that works for you so that you are happy with your achievements along with your social life.
What is something you think is important for prospective families and students to know about Shipley?
At Shipley, the classes are very small. This allows us to create stronger bonds with our peers along with our teachers. I love knowing everyone in my class and how we are all so willing to help each other. Further, the teachers are super nice and are always willing to help you if you are struggling.
Advice for new students.
The teachers at Shipley are your biggest resource. They are our biggest cheerleaders and are always willing to help and will support you through everything.
