Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teacher has been Mr. Addis, my 9th-grade advisor and 11th-grade Honors World Religions teacher. I feel like he is my most influential teacher, as he taught us how to view and understand history and different cultures and he practiced a collaborative teaching style. For example, when learning about Buddhism, he took a very holistic approach at teaching different aspects of the culture and why they did what they did and they believed what they did. I try to practice this style of thinking to this day.

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was 12th-grade Honors American Military History with Mr. Simpson. I really enjoyed the people in my class. Furthermore, I am very much interested in the military part of our history and the grand scale of it all. This is a presentation-based class, and I felt like I thrived with presentations more-so than tests. We have also gotten to watch really good movies like Saving Private Ryan and visited places like Gettysburg.

What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
I do not have a singular most memorable experience at Shipley, as I have been here for 14 years and there are just too many. However, I think my favorite collection of memories has come from my experience being a part of the baseball team. All four years, we have had a great camaraderie and have been able to grow together, which has in turn created some amazing memories, particularly on the Orlando spring break trips.

What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
This phrase means that if you want to do something in life, you should always take the risk. Even if you do not succeed, there is still pride in the fact that you took the risk in the first place.

Complete this sentence: Shipley has prepared me to…
be a positive and active member of every community that I will join, along with the adequate knowledge to pursue whatever endeavor I may choose in my future.

How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Being such a tight-knit community, Shipley has encouraged me to take risks as everyone is very nice and knows each other so well that the embarrassment and fear factor in taking a risk is not there. Thus, I have had the ability to take so many risks now that I am no longer scared but rather excited.

Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it meant to you.
Being a lifer, Shipley has been like a second home for me. I have gotten to know the people here so well that I look forward to coming to school every day, a phenomenon not common in many high school students. Furthermore, more important than the excellent academics and opportunities provided, Shipley has truly taught me the meaning and importance of community and what it takes to build one and be a part of one and for that I will forever be thankful for Shipley.
