We hope to see as many alumni as possible throughout the year in a variety of locations and at many different events. Look out for invitations and event news in your email and mailbox, as well as events posted on this web page. If you have suggestions for alumni programs and events, or would be interested in helping to plan or host an event in the future, please contact the alumni office at alumni@shipleyschool.org.
Virtual Personal Development Series for Shipley Alumni
Please see the list below for the upcoming sessions in the Personal Development Series for Shipley Alumni. Zoom registration links will be added soon. All sessions will be offered twice to better accommodate alumni who live in different timezones. Please email alumni@shipleyschool.org with any questions.
Session 3 - Framing Struggle: Cognitive Strategies for Handling Stress and Navigating Adversity Often, the healthiest and most successful people aren’t people who experience constant flows of pleasantness and comfort. They’re the people who live psychologically rich lives and have gone through the wide range of experiences life has to offer, even the unpleasant ones. The trick is being able to frame, navigate, and grow from these sometimes unavoidable experiences. This session will provide some strategies and skills that can help you do exactly that. Register Here - Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. EST
Session 4 - Peak Performance: Unlocking Your Most Effective Self with the Science of Flow and Unitasking Have you ever been “in the zone”, experienced the “runner's high” or felt that your best work was unconsciously flowing through you? Then you’ve felt the profound impact of flow, a psychological state in which we feel our best and perform our best. We can access more of this, but paradoxically we often lock ourselves out of this state by trying to enhance our productivity through multi-tasking; something the brain is actually not capable of doing. This session will walk you through some simple tips and tricks that can get you more flow, lockout distractions, and help you be your most effective self. Register Here - Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. EST
Session 5 - What’s Your “Why”? Creating a Motivational Foundation for Flourishing When it comes to being our best selves and contributing that best self to the greater good, not all forms of motivation are made equal. This session will guide you through the different components of intrinsic motivation, teach you a bit about the science of purpose, and help you define your “why”: the reason to take the steps necessary to live more intentionally and help yourself and your communities flourish. Register Here - Wednesday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. EST
Session 6 - We Don’t Flourish in a Vacuum: How Well-Being and Success are Interconnected with Our Communities
Alumni Weekend (Friday, April 30 - Saturday, May 1, 2021)
Our happiness and success are deeply interconnected to the people we surround ourselves with and the health of the communities we’re a part of. As humans, we’re wired to belong, relate, connect, give, and be kind. In this final session, you’ll learn the difference between small (individual) potential and “big” (collective) potential as well as some tangible tips for nurturing the relationships and communities of which you are a part. Registration links to follow.
Save the Date! Friday, April 30 - Saturday, May 1, 2021 As so much is still uncertain regarding permissible and safe large in-person gatherings due to COVID-19, in the coming weeks and months we will continue to evaluate all our options for celebrating Alumni Weekend in person and/or virtually this Spring. Check back here for the most up-to-date information!
