Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Dr. Brandao was the most influential teacher during my time at Shipley. She helped me find my love for all the different STEAM fields, including computer science and engineering. Having a teacher who has been in the field before helped me to understand what my future could look like.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was Newtonian Mechanics Physics. Although the class is challenging and I had to put in a lot of work outside of class, it felt much more rewarding to do well in the class. I also love how small the class was, which helped create a greater sense of community.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley was having the chance to attend the SDLC in 10th grade. This helped me find my passion for diversity and how I want to continue to include many of the ideas I learned in my college education and beyond.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
To me, Courage for the Deed; Grace for the doing means having the confidence to be yourself and act in ways that adhere to your personal beliefs while still maintaining respect for others.

How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley has allowed me to overcome my fear of public speaking. As a freshman, my greatest fear would have been having a leadership position or talking in front of an assembly. Now, I can confidently do both.

Shipley has helped me find some of my best friends that I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life. Along with the support from my friends, the support from teachers and counselors helped me to successfully take hard classes.
The Shipley School is a private, coeducational day school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students, located in Bryn Mawr, PA. Through our commitment to educational excellence, we develop within each student a love of learning and a desire for compassionate participation in the world.
