Join us on Saturday, September 27, 2025, on Shipley’s Upper Campus for the Under the Lights Boys’ Soccer Game, kicking off at 6:30 pm. At halftime, we will honor former longtime Head Coach Thom Schauerman.
For nearly two decades, the name Thom Schauerman has been synonymous with Shipley Boys’ Soccer.
Schauerman’s journey at Shipley began in 2005, when former Head of School Steve Piltch recognized his energy, potential, and passion and hired him as an Assistant Boys’ Soccer coach and associate teacher in the Lower School. Just a few years later, Thom was named a full-time Lower School physical education teacher and took on the role of Head Coach of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team.
In 2006, his first year as Head Coach, Schauerman shared his personal motto: “Just don’t mess it up.” That season, he led the team to a stunning 19-1 record, captured his first Friends Schools League (FSL) Championship, and was named
Main Line Coach of the Year. That first season set the tone for what would become a remarkable coaching career at Shipley.
Over the next 19 years, Schauerman guided Shipley to more than
10 FSL Championships and celebrated over 250 Shipley victories. But Schauerman’s legacy extends far beyond wins. He built a culture of excellence, accountability, and community, creating a program where players felt both challenged and valued. Thom often reminded his teams, “Winning is a byproduct of doing a lot of little things well.”
After the 2024 season, Schauerman stepped down as Head Coach. He looks forward to spending more time with his family: his wife and Shipley nurse, Mandy, and their children, Sadie ’25, Annie ’29, and Paxton ’34. Schauerman, a Shipley Honorary Alumnus, continues to teach Physical Education in the Upper School, serves as the Head Middle School Boys’ Soccer Coach, and also coaches with the local soccer club Penn Fusion.
His longtime assistant coach and friend, Brad Jule, took the helm of the Boys’ Soccer program in 2025. Schauerman remains one of the team’s biggest supporters and looks forward to the day he gets to see his son, Paxton, play at the Shipley Farm Fields, which has been a second home to him for many years.
The Shipley community is deeply grateful for Schauerman’s dedication, leadership, and the lasting relationships he has built with hundreds of students and families over the years.
Please join us at Super Saturday on September 27 to honor Thom at halftime of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Game, kicking off under the lights at 6:30 pm.
