Four Shipley Colleagues Celebrate Milestone Anniversaries

Four Shipley colleagues are celebrating milestones anniversaries during the 2025-2026 school year. Celebrating 15 years are Kate Gearhart and Tamar Norquist. Celebrating 25 years are Christian Wareikis and Vince Ceriale.

15 Years

Kate Gearhart
English teacher, art historian, coffee aficionado, rower, assistant librarian—Kate has worn (and continues to wear) many hats at Shipley. She is the Cesar Millan of the English department: our own resident “student whisperer” who has an uncanny ability to sit with a student and gently guide them. Her colleagues appreciate her wry wit and wisdom.

Tamar Norquist
Tamar’s first love was Biology, but she has fully embraced her Chemistry destiny.  She is collaborative with her colleagues and a champion for the smaller voices in the community. Tamar makes science engaging and accessible to our students and much, much more.   She does the heavy lifting to put her students in the position to put on the annual famous (and gigantically messy) 10th-grade chemistry demo fair.  She is a caring educator who empowers students to make a difference in Shipley’s culture by helping them to identify and to address problems as the head of SPARC.

25 Years

Christian Wareikis
The infamous “Mr. W.” leaves a lasting impression on every student and colleague he meets, as evidenced by frequent mentions in senior profiles, at open houses, and alumni events. Over the last 25 years, he has been an integral part of creating the unforgettable fourth-grade curriculum, including Pioneer Day and various field trips.

You can find him sharing his love of all things Star Wars and trading cards with students or dodging balls in highly competitive bombardment games. In past years, he could be found coaching middle school basketball and running the clock during upper school games. There isn’t anything Christian wouldn’t do for the betterment of the Shipley Gators.

An excellent teacher, Christian received the Colleague Recognition Award in 2002 and the Margaret Bailey Speer Distinguished Teaching Award in June 2005. One of his proudest moments was watching his daughter, Ibby, graduate from Shipley in 2025.

Vince Ceriale
Since coming to Shipley 25 years ago, Vince has been integral to the success of the school. He has carefully managed the School’s intricate system of keys and locks, personally making and organizing them, and ensuring that every part of campus remains safe and secure.

Vince has contributed to Shipley in a million other ways and has done it with warmth and humor. There’s no job too big or too small – just things that need to get done. In doing so with such a positive approach, he has ingratiated himself with every person on campus and has proven himself accountable but without taking himself, or anyone else, for that matter, too seriously.

He is the proud parent of Shipley alum Vince ’13, a two-time Colleague Recognition Award honoree, and his work ethic, steady demeanor, dedication to Shipley, and steady banter have made him an invaluable member of the Shipley community.
