My favorite class was Newtonian Mechanics Physics. Although the class is challenging and I had to put in a lot of work outside of class, it felt much more rewarding to do well in the class. I also love how small the class was, which helped create a greater sense of community.

My time at Shipley taught me that things won’t just magically come to you; you have to fight for them yourself. Fight for the A, fight for the extension, fight for the captain position. Since learning this, my experience at Shipley became tremendously meaningful. I learned never to just go through the motions, but to give 110% effort to everything I do, no matter the outcome. I’m so grateful that Shipley allowed me to test this mindset and the independence to truly embrace it.

During my time at Shipley I took risks in artistic, academic, and musical areas which was only made possible by the teachers that helped me along the way. Over the years, Shipley never closed any doors to me, they simply said, "Let's find a way to make this work for you the best we can.”

Through challenges and obstacles, I learned to identify both my strengths and areas for growth with clarity, and, more importantly, how to approach problems with resilience and thoughtful solutions. Shipley gave me the tools to become a more self-aware, compassionate, and driven individual—lessons I’ll take with me into every future chapter of my life.

In the most sincere way possible, my time at Shipley has meant so much to me. Shipley has allowed me to grow as a person, in my interests, my athletics, my passions, my learning, and just in who I am. I will cherish the relationships I have formed here, with my teachers and my peers. Shipley is the reason I am who I am today.

Beyond academics, Shipley has taught me to think critically, act with integrity, and approach every challenge with both courage and compassion. The community pushed me to grow — not just as a student, but as a person — encouraging risk-taking, resilience, and kindness. I’m leaving Shipley more confident in who I am and more prepared for whatever comes next, grateful for the people and experiences that made this journey so meaningful.

Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing means having the strength to take on challenges, even when they feel intimidating, and handling those moments with kindness, patience, and humility. It’s about stepping up when it counts, but also remembering that how you carry yourself through the process matters just as much as the outcome. It’s a reminder to be bold in action, but thoughtful in how you move through the world.

The greatest part about Shipley are the teachers and staff. I have not had one class in my entire time at Shipley that I dread going to because of the teacher. I am able to hold engaging and interesting conversations with all of my teachers. Shipley is truly the definition of the people make the place.

As a faculty child and a lifer, Shipley has always been a second home to me. My time at Shipley shaped who I am today. It’s been a place where I’ve grown academically, built strong relationships, and learned the importance of character and leadership. Through challenges and successes, I’ve learned to believe in myself and stay true to my values.

Dr. Gillin was my most influential teacher. She always made time to meet with me when I needed help or further explanation and clarification. She helped me gain confidence in my writing and always helped me feel supported.

I was a freshman when I arrived at Shipley, and I never took a real Spanish class before. During middle school, I would have Spanish once a week but never got the opportunity to fully engage in class and learn Spanish. Throughout my four years at Shipley, Spanish was the most interactive and enjoyable.

Mr. Frankel encouraged me and taught me how to advocate for myself. He helped me to build confidence in not just math but all of my subjects, and was always there for me when I needed a laugh. The second is Mr. Clement, who taught me new study techniques, grit, and resilience that helped me push harder in my academics, despite feeling discouraged. Both Mr. Frankel and Mr. Clement were always available to meet whenever I needed help, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have had both of these outstanding teachers.

Dr. Richard was my most influential teacher at Shipley. is classes are interesting and engaging and have helped prepare me for college more than any other classes I've taken at Shipley. Dr. Richard made me a more critical thinker, an improved writer, a more effective debater, and an overall better student.

More important than the excellent academics and opportunities provided, Shipley has truly taught me the meaning and importance of community and what it takes to build one and be a part of one and for that I will forever be thankful for Shipley.

My time at Shipley allowed me to fully realize my passions. I discovered my ability to perform in front of others. In 10th grade, I started taking Mr. Brown's Studio Theater class. I loved it immediately, and I knew this was absolutely the path for me. I had a very fulfilling five years at The Shipley School.
